Fly Fishing Outfits

An easy choice but not always the best choice

First, let me say that an outfit can be the most economical way to get into the sport, but if you tend to the very inexpensive kits, your experience may be difficult enough to make you quit altogether. Most of these come with heavy, clunky rods, reels that break down quickly and fly lines that are lousy. Simple enough.

Having said that, companies have, in recent years put together some higher quality combinations. For instance, TFO has a nice NXT kit that makes send for lots of folks, but it's $199, not $79. Also, we at Hook & Hackle, can get you start with very good quality gear for under $150, and you'll have a rod, reel and line that'll last for years and years.
