Our New "XEN" Blanks and Kits are available!

The one question I'm asked over and over is, "What's the best fly rod I can buy?" Well, anyone who know me well knows that my favorite fly rod is whichever I'm fishing at the time and if a fish is on the end of it, that makes it even better!

But now, we have something extraordinary to offer our customers: the new XEN. We've designed it in an effort to combine all the best qualities our customers have been asking for. For instance, they're made in the USA at North Fork Composites, which is Gary Loomis' manufacturing facility. And of course, all the blanks are designed by Gary ... and they're all new designs exclusive for Hook & Hackle. They are all constructed by hand from the finest graphite material availabe .... anywhere!

General characteristics are a matte, hand sanded, charcoal finish. We like this because it doesn't create any glare that might spook the fish. Also, a painted finish sometimes alters the performance and adds to the weight ... two things which we also wanted to avoid. Their strength is phenomenal and you can see demonstrated in the "Overview" tab above. For the kits, we wanted to emphasize two things: a stealth finish and made in the USA components. The guides are REC "Black Pearl" single foot guides, made from a titanium/nickel alloy. They're the strongest and lightest guides available. You'll the REC black aluminum reel seat the best and lightest in its class. The 3-6 weight kits have a fance California Burl Maple wood insert and the 7 & 8 weight kits sport an all aluminum REC seat with detachable fighting butt. All these goodies plus the Super Grade cork grips are all made by REC too!

The actions of the 3-5, are a moderate fast, making them exceptional casting rods for trout in most situation. The 6 weight is fast and perfect for casting some of those big hairy bass bugs into the wind! And the 9'6" 7 & 8, with their extra length and powerful actions, make them the perfect rods for salmon and saltwater applications.
